That'll work in some variations of multiplayer, but note that you can't use a guest account to play online-using one restricts you to local play. On either the PlayStation or Xbox console families, you can sign in with a guest account, rather than one tied to either the PSN or Xbox Live. On the second controller, sign in to an account on your console. Step 1: Sign In A Second Controllerīefore you get going on Cold War, you're going to need a second controller.

You can do this across the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One versions of the game. Here's everything you need to know to set up split-screen for both online and local play on consoles, in all of Cold War's modes. Now Playing: Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War - Campaign Impressions I honestly don’t think that’s too much to ask.By clicking 'enter', you agree to GameSpot's I just want split-screen to play as well, or nearly as well, as single-screen. In fact, simply having split-screen gameplay in a game these days is wonderful and we’re all beyond happy that it’s there-but if it doesn’t work, if it’s so badly broken you can’t use it, then what’s the point? When you get a crazy last-minute win, or pull off that wild throwing knife kill just in the nick of time, you want to holler and high-five not talk into a headset with someone 20 feet away.įix it, Treyarch! It may not be the top priority for a multiplayer game, it may not be one of the boxes Activision wants to tick off, but it does matter to a segment of the Call of Duty community.
#COLD WAR SPLIT SCREEN PC#
It’s always possible to go fire up my PC and we can play online together here in the same house, but then we’re in different rooms and it’s just not quite the same. I like playing video games with my kids, or with friends who come over to hang out rather than play online, and it’s a drag that Treyarch can’t come up with a split-screen that actually works. I know I’m a broken record on this issue, but it matters to me. I ended up getting that game on Xbox Series X just so we could continue playing Call of Duty together without it either crashing or having to deal with Cold War’s myriad split-screen bugs.
We started going back to Modern Warfare exclusively for this, and then on PS5 that game kept crashing over and over and over again, at times crashing so hard we had to reset the console manually. So we don’t really play Black Ops Cold War locally anymore even though we would love to given the chance. This makes it not just difficult, but downright impossible to play split-screen. Worse, there will be matches where the enemy character models only show up as a pair of swinging arms or a gun or nothing at all. Sometimes, your entire character is invisible. Sometimes this goes away after a round or two. You have to shoot with invisible firearms. After this first match, for reasons I do not understand, the graphics bug out completely. In both Gunfight and Multiplayer, we can get exactly one mostly-bug-free match in before things go haywire.
Now, while that bug has apparently been fixed, others have reared their ugly heads. It was basically a cheat-but the hack was built in, not something players had to implement themselves.įrankly, with the rest of the split-screen problems in this game, this bug just leveled the playing field. For a time, this wasn’t happening, and you could see exactly where the other team was going if you watched the bottom screen. You can always see the other team at the beginning of a Gunfight match, but those red outlines are supposed to disappear when the round starts. For a while there was a bug where the second player (the bottom screen) was able to see the red outlines of the other team for the entire match. But other things have gone wrong as well.
